Sonic Prep Player of the Week: Carson Hinshaw

Hinshaw plays football at Lake Mary High School

LAKE MARY, Fla. – The last name “Hinshaw” may sound familiar to people in Central Florida, especially those at UCF.

Carson Hinshaw, a senior wide receiver, just wrapped up a stellar career at Lake Mary High School. He caught 60 passes for almost 1,000 yards and 19 touchdowns for the Lake Mary Rams, a team with one of the most prolific offenses in the state of Florida.

Hinshaw’s success opened a lot of eyes, including the coaches at UCF. He committed to the Knights as a preferred walk-on and signed his letter of intent back in February in front of his family and friends.

“They [UCF] reached out to me on senior night,” Hinshaw told News 6. “I had a three touchdown game that night. They reached out to me, and I just broke down into tears. It was a crazy moment for me, and I was just so happy that I was able to sign and complete my mission of going there.”

UCF is like a second home to Hinshaw. His uncle, Darin Hinshaw, is a former Knight who serves are the current Knight’s football co-offensive coordinator. The “Hinshaw” name has a long and storied history at the college.

“It was almost like a no-brainer,” Carson Hinshaw said. “I got a rich history there. My dad played there; my uncle played there. Both of my parents went there; my mom went there. It’s been around me my life. It was always a dream of mine, and I’m happy it could come true.”
