Sonic Prep Player of the Week Update: Jaloni Cambridge

Cambridge named Gatorade Player of the Year in Florida

MONTVERDE, Fla. – A recent Player of the Week received another stellar accolade to add to her name.

Jaloni Cambridge, a point guard on the Montverde Academy’s girl basketball team, was named the Gatorade Player of the Year in the state of Florida. She is also one of three finalists for National Player of the Year.

The awards and nominations come as no surprise. Cambridge averages 20 points, 8 assists and 7 rebounds a game. She and the team are seeking a national championship.

The McDonald’s All-American already committed to play collegiately for Ohio State, and Cambridge takes a ton of pride in being an elite all-around player.

“It’s great knowing that I have those different talents where I can score, I can pass the ball and go rebound,” Cambridge told News 6. “With me being a smaller guard, it’s really hard to rebound. But it’s easy once you get the hang of it. And I’m a pass-first PG [point guard]; that’s what I consider myself as. If I can make my teammates happy by them scoring before me, I’m going to do that any time of the day. But, of course, I’m going to step up if I need to score.”
