Wind gusts stronger than 40 mph in some Central Florida cities caused scattered power outages early Tuesday, according to Local 6 meteorologist Larry Mowry.

  • "In Daytona, we had a wind gust of 40 mph and that is above tropical storm-force winds so it is very gusty out there today," Larry Mowry said.

A wind gust of 43 mph was recorded at Orlando Executive Airport early Tuesday morning. Other areas also recorded wind gusts of 40 mph.

"In Daytona Beach, we had a wind gust of 40 mph and that is above tropical storm-force winds so it is very gusty out there today," Mowry said.

Winds nearly reached 40 mph in Melbourne and The Villages.

Sustained winds in Orange County were recorded as high as 20 mph Tuesday.

"It is quite windy today and it will remain windy throughout the entire day today," Mowry said. "You want to hold on to the steering wheel with both hands as you head to work," Mowry said.

The strong winds are expected to continue for most of the day followed by much lower temperatures.

"Tonight will be much colder than this morning," Mowry said. "The winds will shift to the northwest today and that will allow even cooler weather to drop down from the north overnight tonight."

Temperatures are expected to only reach the mid-60s in most of Central Florida Tuesday.

Lows Tuesday night will drop into the high 30s and low 40s.

    Orlando's low is 40 degrees.

There will be a slight warm up for Thanksgiving with temperatures reaching the mid-70s during the day, Mowry said.
