LAKE COUNTY, Fla. -- A Lake County emergency medical technician-firefighter has sued an 84-year-old woman for getting injured while responding to her call for help.Jennifer Roland seeks unspecified damages of more than $15,000 in her lawsuit.Roland claims she hurt her back and neck when a fire engine's front wheel broke through a septic tank lid at Elizabeth Baker's home, Local 6 reported.
Baker had called 911 desperate for help, Local 6 reported. Some Lake County leaders said they were shocked about the lawsuit."I think when you are a firefighter or a public safety official, you take some of that risk on when you respond to a call," Lake County spokesman Chris Patton said. "Our citizens should feel safe whenever they call 911 and have someone responding out to their home to protect their life and safety."Roland is not the first emergency responder to sue after an emergency call. In October, Casselberry police Sgt. Andrea Eichhorn sued a victim's family after she slipped and fell in their home while trying to rescue a boy who nearly drowned. The child survived but suffered severe brain damage. The officer eventually dropped her lawsuit and was fired.Watch Local 6 News for more on this story.
