ZZ Top Guitarist Becomes MinisterGibbons Can Marry Couple In 49 StatesPosted: 12:03 p.m. EDT July 30, 2002 Texas blues-rock group ZZ Top is successful enough to not play the wedding circuit, but that does not preclude one of the group's members from marrying people.
Gibbons' fellow rockers have faith in his new position of authority. George Thorogood and the Destroyers guitarist Jim Suhler had Gibbons officiate at his wedding June 28. Gibbons formed ZZ Top with bassist Dusty Hill and drummer Frank Beard in 1970. They've scored such hits as "Gimme All Your Lovin'," "Sharp Dressed Man," "Tush" and "Cheap Sunglasses." The group's publicist would not confirm what church Gibbons was ordained in, or what state denied Gibbons the right to perform weddings
