ORLANDO, Fla. -- The owner of an Orlando waffle stand faces the possible closure of his business over a statue of a urinating boy, according to Local 6 News.
Jacky Assayag recently added a replica Belgian statue called the Manneken Pis to the front of his waffle business at the Fashion Square Mall in Orlando. The fountain statue is of a boy who saved the city of Brussels from fire by extinguishing the flame with his urine hundreds of years ago, according to legend. The statue is supposed to bring good luck. However, since the statue has been placed at the front of Jacky's Belgian Waffles, several customers have complained that it is indecent."I don't see what the shock is," Assayag said. "It's a small boy making pee-pee. "I don't bring this with the intention to shock or provoke anybody," Assayag said.Mall officials said that Assayag did not follow procedures when he put up the statue and is in violation of his lease.A mall statement said "our standard lease agreement requires that retailers gain written approval before any sort of decoration, lettering or advertising that is visible from the exterior of the store is put in."Assayag hopes the mall will allow him to continue to display the statue. He said that he plans to keep the statue standing even though the mall can close his business for violating the lease.Watch Local 6 News for more on this story.
