Larry Mowry

What do you call a meteorologist who can give you the weather in a clear and simple way so you can plan your day? Larry Mowry.

Mowry helps you start your day on The Morning News every day beginning at 5 a.m.

Mowry, who has earned the seal of approval from the American Meteorological Society (AMS), has a unique mix of energy and enthusiasm along with experience and expertise.

He has a highly technical background and a passion for weather that keeps him working tirelessly to make each forecast as accurate as possible. “I’m a perfectionist. I try to get it right the first time, every time,” said Mowry, who previously worked at WLS ABC-7 in Chicago.

Mowry graduated Cum Laude from Valparaiso University in Indiana with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Meteorology. He received intensive training on topics such as, thermodynamics, mesoscale analysis, synoptics and aviation meteorology. He also spent time storm chasing tornadoes in the Central Plains

Mowry has also worked at WICU NBC-12 in Erie, Pennslyvannia and WSBT CBS-22 in South Bend, Indiana.

Mowry says he understands the needs of viewers who tune in during the early morning hours. “I try to give the information clearly and concisely because people are often rushed in the morning. They watch to see how the drive to work will be or if the weather will cancel their plans. I try to get my point across quickly and in a way that’s easy to understand,” said Mowry.

During his time off, Mowry enjoys jogging, lifting weights, softball and traveling.
