Mom's Cell Phone Photo Appears As Pornography To Family Member

UPDATED: 12:38 am EDT October 11, 2006

A Central Florida mother was shocked when photos she sent from her Cingular cell phone appeared to a family member as hardcore pornography, according to a Local 6 News report.

Kim Admire said she sent photos of her daughter's braces to family and friends from her camera phone.

Admire's photos of her daughter were received by everyone she sent them to, except for her brother, Timothy May.

May received a text message directing him to a Cingular Wireless Web site where he could retrieve Admire's photo. He had visited the Cingular site before, but this time, instead of his niece smiling back from the screen, he saw a pornographic image.

The image was an animated Pinocchio doing something with a woman that Local 6 News did not air on television, Local 6's Nancy Alvarez reported.

"I about fell off my chair," May said. "At first, I thought my computer had a virus," May said. "I called my brother and said, 'Go to this site, put in this password and ID and tell me what you see.' He got the same animated graphic."

The animation was titled "Shayna's Braces," which was the same title Admire named her photo.

"Pinocchio is doing something that I don't think anybody has seen in a storybook" May said.

May and Admire demanded answers from Cingular Wireless.

"They have not blocked it," May said. "They have not taken it down. They have not called us back. There has been no action on it. That is why we contacted you."

"Once Local 6 contacted Cingular, they removed the image from the Web site and a team of technicians was assigned to investigate how this happened," Alvarez reported.

A company representative said it was a first, the report said.

"In a statement, (the representative) apologizes on behalf of the company and calls this a bizarre and isolated incident," Alvarez said. "She said Cingular is trying to make sure it does not happen again."
