Deputy Dies After Being Struck By Hit-Run Driver

A 26-year-old Orange County sheriff's deputy who was struck by a hit-and-run driver during an attempted traffic stop Tuesday died from his injuries Wednesday night.

Deputy Michael Callin, 26, received extensive body fractures and lost a large amount of blood after he was hit by a car allegedly driven by Allan Barahona.

Barahona was captured early Wednesday at his girlfriend's house in the Pine Hills area after fleeing the crashed car on foot.

Callin's brain swelled, causing severe damage Wednesday and he went through several surgeries, including one to amputate his leg, Local 6 News reported.

Callin was pronounced dead at about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

"I would ask this community to pray for the Callin family," Orange County Sheriff Kevin Beary said. "Looking at his motorcycle colleagues today, they are all iron-jawed but you can see tears flowing."

About 300 officers filled the hospital offering support for Callin.

Callin was known as a dedicated man, according to Beary.

"He told his dad, he said, 'Dad, I love this job and I would probably do it without getting paid," Beary said.

Callin was the second Central Florida officer killed in two days by hit-and-run officers.

"I'm tired of hurting and my heart is hurting," Beary said. "This is senseless violence. There is an attitude on the street that people don't care anymore."

Barahona will face murder charges for allegedly running over and killing Callin.
