Scientists in Utah have uncovered what appears to be a new species of dinosaur that was likely the largest and heaviest armored dinosaur ever to walk the planet.

The report said the specimen weighed more than 10,000 pounds, making it three times the size and weight of an armored dinosaur called Gastonia.

College of Eastern Utah paleontologists found it in a state that seems to be turning up more graves of armored dinosaurs than anywhere in the world, the report said.

"It will be the largest, heaviest armored dinosaur found on the planet so far," Director of the CEU Prehistoric Museum Dr. Reese Barrick said.

Barrick said no other animals would have been able to get its claws under the dinosaur's armor.

"So it's best defense is just to stand there or even kneel down so there's no way an animal can get to where the soft underbelly would be," Barrick said.

If the discovery is confirmed to be a new species, it should have the words tank, monster or mountain in its name, according to the report.
