The BIS-WIDS Prime is a surveillance camera developed by Brijot Imaging Systems Inc. of Orlando, Fla., that can identify non-human material under clothing and does not show images of the naked form.

Local 6 News showed video of the device finding bombs and guns hidden on people without using a metal detector or physical pat down.

The BIS-WDS Prime system's millimeter wave component is a radiometer, which images the millimeter wave "signature" of objects. The system images millimeter wave signatures and processes them via the system’s sophisticated software algorithms to identify weapons.

A team at Brijot has been working on the security system for two years.

"It is working as a camera but it is a radio telescope working in real time," Brijot Imaging Systems spokesman Brian Andre said. "What it is doing is looking at you many times a second just like an ordinary video camera."

"The technology is a first of its kind and could replace metal detectors for speed," Local 6 reporter Samantha Knapp said. "It is Central Florida engineering with international appeal."

"The early adopters will be basically be protecting high-value places," Andre said. "Places where you would need to know there are no guns or bombs coming into the facilities."

Local 6 News reported that the systems could even be introduced in schools.

"There will be different cameras for different applications to do different things," Andre said.
