Authorities in Central Florida are warning residents that firing bullets into the air to celebrate the New Year will not be tolerated this year, according to Local 6 News.A stray bullet fired into the sky last New Year's Eve in Orlando, Fla., landed more than 2,200 yards away and killed Henry McDaniel, 75.After an investigation, forensics experts linked the bullet to an assault rifle confiscated that night at Richardo Roach's home about a mile away.
In October, Roach was found guilty of manslaughter.Orange County sheriff's Cpl. Mike Ruggeiro said many Central Florida jurisdictions tend to have a problem of guns fired into the air."By all means a firearm such as a rifle could fire a round up into the air that could go upwards of a quarter mile depending on the trajectory it was fired at," Ruggeiro said.Ruggeiro warned that a shooter who fires a bullet into air is responsible for it."When that round leaves their residence and their property they still own it," Ruggeiro said. So, whereever it lands and whatever damage it does is their responsibility."Watch Local 6 News for more on this story.
