BROOMFIELD, Colo. -- A man hoping to unseat Broomfield Mayor Karen Stuart said Wednesday that he had an affair with Stuart eight years ago.Clark Griep told the Rocky Mountain News that Stuart "accosted" him in a parking lot earlier this year and threatened to tell his wife about the affair if he didn't stop rumors of the affair from spreading.Griep said coming clean about the relationship was one of the conditions his wife placed on him after he told her. Griep said he and Stuart were both City Council members at the time of the affair.
Stuart said that Griep is being "untruthful," and told a reporter, "Have you seen Clark Griep? That tells you everything."Griep's wife said he had no reason to lie about it."Why anyone in this town would think he would come home and tell me something like that, which would change the course of our 30-year relationship forever, just to get ahead, makes no sense," Joan Griep told the News.
