A 7-foot, 9-inch herdsman in Beijing, China has been confirmed by Guinness World Records as the tallest naturally-growing human in the world.

  • "I do not like people looking at me like they're watching a strange animal," Bao Xishunto said.

Bao Xishunto, from the Inner Mongolia region of China, recently received the official certificate from Guinness World Records headquarters after undergoing a medical examination at Chifeng city hospital, Inner Mongolia.

He underwent 22 kinds of tests including mental and physical check-ups with the results finding Xishunto is completely normal - albeit rather tall.

The record has made Xishunto a reluctant celebrity in China.

Xishunto was recently invited by China's Central Television to appear on a nationally-televised talk show.

He told the CCTV anchor that he was same size as other kids of his age before 16, but he then grew fast and reached his present enormous height by the age of 23.

Xishunto was recruited as a basketball player by Shenyang Military Area in 1973, and although he left the team three years later because he failed to keep up with the speed of other players, it was a happy time for him, he said.

Since leaving the basketball team, Xishunto been living in the remote grassland area of his birth, never leaving home again.

He said his height has brought plenty of problems.

"I do not like people looking at me like they're watching a strange animal," he said.

He told CCTV he once fell in love with two girls, but he never expressed his feelings to them as he was afraid that they would be uncomfortable with his height and run away.

Even now at the age of 54, Xishunto remains single and lives with his parents in Chifeng city, Inner Mongolia, an autonomous region of China.
