Lightning Strike Injures Worker, Suspected In Apt. Fire

Lightning from severe weather in Central Florida Tuesday night is being blamed for injuring a construction worker and possibly sparking an apartment fire, according to Local 6 News.

A man working near John Young Parkway and the Bee Line Expressway was hit and injured by a bolt of lightning Tuesday, police said.

The man was on a construction site when he was hit, Local 6 News reported.

He was transported to a local hospital and is expected to survive the strike.

Also Tuesday, firefighters in Orange County responded to a fire possibly started by a lightning strike at the Briar Creek Apartments near Pershing and state Road 436.

Two apartments at the complex were so badly damaged that the residents have been forced to leave and find another place to stay.

Investigators have not confirmed the fire was sparked by lightning

There were no reported injuries in connection with the fire.
