Alleged Intruder Fatally Shot In Home Was Man's Son

Police Not Sure If Shooting Was Accidental Or Intentional

Authorities in Seminole County, Fla., said a man who told police he shot and killed an intruder in his home early Tuesday actually shot his son, according to Local 6 News.

Investigators said Robert Trott, 56, called 911 at about 6 a.m. Tuesday and said that he shot a man who had attempted to break into his home on Hillcrest Street.

When deputies arrived at the house they found the suspected burglar dead in the home's doorway.

Later, detectives determined that the victim was Trott's 36-year-old son, Robert Jr., according to Local 6 News. However, authorities are still not sure whether the shooting was accidental or intentional.

"We don't have any clear picture of what actually happened," Seminole County Sheriff's Office spokesman Barry Smith said.

After four hours of questioning Trott, Smith said they found holes in the homeowner's story.

"There are quite a few inconsistencies and contridictions," Smith said.

Trott's attorney advised him to stop answering questions Tuesday night, Local 6 News reported.

Investigators said Trott is not a suspect but a person of interest.

Authorities have obtained a search warrant for Trott's home.

The shooting remains under investigation.
