DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- An elderly woman was slammed to the ground outside a Daytona Beach store and threatened by a man with a knife who stole her purse by cutting its straps, police said.
The robbery happened on Saturday at the CVS Pharmacy located at 1891 LPGA Blvd. in Daytona Beach.
Police said the elderly woman was walking toward the front entrance of the store when she was approached by the assailant.
The man told the woman that he was going to cut her throat and slammed her to the ground, police said.
The assailant then cut the straps to the woman's purse and ran to a vehicle parked on the northern side of the building, police said.
The culprit was last seen fleeing eastbound on LPGA Boulevard in a gold-colored vehicle, which was described by police as dirty or beat up and sitting low to the ground.
The assailant was described as a black man between the ages of 20 and 30 years old and 6 feet tall. He was wearing plaid shorts, a blue or black shirt and a hat. A store surveillance image of the assailant was released on Monday.
The woman's condition was not released.
