Teen Can't Find Football Helmet That Fits
13-Year-Old Having Trouble Finding Suitable Headgear

EDINBURGH, Ind. -- A 13-year-old high school freshman might have to sit out his football team's season because his head -- 26 inches in circumference -- won't fit his helmet.Or any helmet, as far as Tyler Money's coaches can tell.
The Edinburgh High School student's search for suitable headgear is going nationwide -- a national network has booked him for a morning-show interview -- and he can't help but take the attention in stride."I'm trying to make it not get to my head. It doesn't need to get any bigger than it is now," Tyler (pictured, left) said Wednesday.Helmet problems are nothing new to Tyler. When he played in a kids' league three years ago, he had to request a helmet from the high school. But at least he was able to fit one until this year.The bottom of his current helmet (pictured, right) won't slide past his ears.The lineman now apparently won't even fit helmets made for professionals. An Indianapolis TV station reported his head is larger than that of the Chicago Bears' James "Big Cat" Williams, who reportedly wears the largest helmet in the NFL.
"He's been a sport," Edinburgh football coach Bryan Burton said. "He's been patient, and most kids his age would have walked away."He's understood that we're doing the best we can with it."The school contacted helmet maker Riddell, which answered that it doesn't have headgear that would fit. However, the company says it is working on a model that may work, but no promises have been made.Tyler says he'll watch his team and learn if he can't find a helmet in time for this season. Still, he and Burton haven't given up hope."Hopefully, with this national attention, someone might come forward and say, 'We've got a helmet that might fit this kid,' " Burton said.Edinburgh's athletic department said it would welcome calls from people who believe they may have a helmet that would fit.
