TITUSVILLE, Fla. -- A 49-year-old Titusville man was hospitalized on Tuesday after accidentally shooting himself in the stomach with a nail gun.The construction worker, who suffered the injury on the job, was flown to Holmes Regional Medical Center by First Flight rescue helicopter with a 1-inch laceration and profuse bleeding, said Scott Gaenicke, division chief of the Titusville Fire Department.About an hour after the incident and prior to being airlifted, the man rode his bicycle to the CVS Pharmacy at Garden Street and Washington Avenue, where he sought advice, Local 6 News partner Florida Today reported. The pharmacist called the Titusville Fire Department because the wound wouldn't stop bleeding, Gaenicke said.
"The nail glanced off his stomach and hit the wall," Gaenicke said. "He had a lot of bleeding that wouldn't stop and a lot of swelling. We called for First Flight because we didn't know if there was a more serious thing going on in there."Watch Local 6 News for more on this story.
