PALM BAY, Fla. -- Police in Palm Bay are furious this weekend after one of two teens accused of shooting a gun at a public park is released from jail.Brevard County Judge Kelly McKibben released a juvenile arrested Friday in connection with a shooting at Fred Lee Park at 895 Emerson Drive N.E.Police received multiple 911 calls about the incident where a juvenile armed with a handgun allegedly tried to shoot another.
Several shots were fired, but no one was injured, Local 6 News partner Florida Today reported.Police used tracking dogs and a helicopter to locate the teenagers. One was charged with attempted murder, while the other faces a charge of attempted murder.Police said the juveniles approached 10 to 15 other teens at the park, and one of the juveniles charged the teens, firing several rounds into the air and then pointing the gun at one of the teens, firing more shots in his direction from across a field. The park was crowded with others playing football, and participating in other activities at the time of the shooting. The firearm hasn't been located."We are extremely lucky we didn't have a tragedy," said Major John Blackledge of the Palm Bay Police Criminal Investigations Division. "It's extremely disturbing to hear a judge would think it was appropriate to let one of these dangerous teens go home, knowing we haven't located the firearm."
