SPRING HILL, Fla. -- A 43-year-old man in Florida was found dead with the right side of his face eaten off and his ears chewed away, according to a Pasco County sheriff's representative.

Paramedics responding to a home on Tuner Loop in Spring Hill called deputies after finding Daniel Dangelis' body in a room at the home.

There were three pit-bull puppies near Dangelis' body licking their faces, reported WTSP-TV in Tampa.

Dangelis was last seen going to his bedroom by a friend, the station reported. The friend also found Dangelis' body.

A friend said Dangelis had been drinking heavily and took an anti-anxiety pill before going to bed, WTSP reported Wednesday night.

The cause of death is not known.

Animal Control removed the pit bull puppies from the home.
