Detectives said Shawanda Butler was arrested and charged Tuesday after she received a visit from a Little Angels Adoption Agency representative.

The representative said she made a surprise visit to Butler's home on 40th Avenue in Ocala to confirm her pregnancy.

The woman said she spotted Butler stuffing a pillow under her shirt in an attempt to look pregnant, a Marion County sheriff's report said.

The agent said she then discovered that Butler was not pregnant, but in fact "very thin."

Investigators said Butler had defrauded Little Angels Adoption Agency and Choose Life of Marion County of more than $5,000 by pretending to be pregnant and receiving money and gifts.

Butler was charged with organized fraud and transported to the Marion County Jail.
