A Swiss company has created the world's first "aqua" car, that is able to drive on land, on top of water and even up to 33 feet under the sea.

The submersible car created by the Rinspeed company was successfully tested at the Silver Springs theme park in Florida.

The SQuba vehicle, is stable when submerged and can travel about 8 mph on top of the water and 4 mph under water, Rinspeed said.

The lightweight car uses cutting edge technology to float and then submerge in the water.

Rinspeed CEO Frank Rinderknecht, who is known for his extraordinary automobile creations, said it is not easy to make a car water-tight and pressure resistant enough to be maneuverable under water.

To create the vehicle, the combustion engine was removed and replaced with several electronic motors, according to an Ocala Star-Banner report.

"This is a very special prototype," electrical engineer Fabian Grob said. "It is a car that can run on the streets, on the water and under water."

The occupant's breathing air comes from an integrated tank inside the vehicle.
