E. Coli Found In County's Drinking Water

A Central Florida community is being warned that human and animal waste could be contaminating some of its drinking water, Local 6 reported.

Water from the northeastern area of Lake Mary tested positive for E. coli last week.

However, some residents never received a warning of the finding, Local 6 reported.

"If there's cause to be concerned, the residents should be notified," resident Stacey Davis said.

A boil-water alert was never issued because county officials said the water is still safe to drink.

"The water is more than OK to drink and we're comfortable with that because of the chlorine levels at the time," Seminole County Representative Angelita Streeter said.

Streeter said had there been a serious E. coli contamination, all water samples would have tested positive. However, only one water sample tested positive.

"The samples that were taken were taken upstream and downstream of the very same water main and there was no presence of E. coli," Streeter said.

Water management officials have taken more samples of the water and the results will be available Tuesday.
