A man and woman in Eatonville, Fla., are accused of trying to run down several police officers during a traffic stop Saturday.

Investigators said Lonnie Sheffield, 27, and passenger, Jasmine Love, were stopped in a black Lincoln Town Car.

During the stop, police said Sheffield refused to present his identification. He then shut an officer's hand in his vehicle's door and he drove off, according to police.

Officers said when Sheffield began driving toward them, they fired off 11 rounds at the car.

Sheffield was hit in the arm and leg and Love was hit in the arm as they drove away.

Sheffield and Love were eventually stopped near 7-Eleven on South Orange Blossom Trail and All American Drive and taken into custody.

Both face a series of charges in connection with the incident.

During a pursuit, police said the couple tossed a 12-gauge shotgun out of the car window. The gun was later recovered by Maitland police.

The officers who shot at the couple are on paid administrative leave.
