Joey Lynn Mendolia, 51, was charged with animal cruelty, abandonment and animals in distress after Palm Bay police and Brevard County Animal Control officials served a warrant at about 2 p.m.

According to officials, about 30 cats -- some of which are malnourished and have leukemia or AIDS -- a couple of dogs, a dead kitten and a potbelly pig with enlarged testicles were taken from the home.

Officers said the pig was so neglected that his testicles were enlarged to the size of a basketball.

Veterinarians determined that the pig needed to be euthanized.

Officers said they also noticed a foul odor of feces and urine coming from the home.

Animal control officials said they have visited Mendolia's house several times, including earlier in the week.

The pets are in the possession of animal control.
