A 2-year-old girl apparently shot herself in the leg on Saturday after her father left her in a chair with a loaded gun, according to Orange County sheriff's deputies.

Edd Jeffery Taylor, 27, of Orlando, was charged with aggravated child neglect and leaving a firearm within access of a minor after his daughter was injured at about 8:30 p.m. at their Silver Pines apartment.

The girl was airlifted to Orlando Regional Medical Center with a gunshot wound to her right hip and leg area in serious condition.

Taylor said he left the girl unattended while he went to the bathroom and heard a gunshot as he was returning, according to an Orange County sheriff's report. Taylor said he then found his daughter bleeding, the report stated.
