A Florida Today newspaper delivery woman is being credited with saving a man's life after her gut instinct prompted her to call 911 for a sick reader.

Carrier Tonya Brand said she noticed that Florida Today customer Gene Plante did not pick up his newspaper on Saturday.

"I heard the faucet running in his kitchen and I just assumed he was up and was going to grab his paper," Brand said.

Brand said she did not want to jump to conclusions but said for the last three years, Plante had always wanted his paper promptly.

So, Brand said she called 911 out of a "gut instinct."

When deputies came to check the call, they found Plante lying on the foor.

Privacy laws prevented officials form releasing what exactly happened to Plante, Local 6 reported.

However, Brand said when she visited the man in the hospital, he was unaware of what was going on.

The carrier said she can't explain what caused her to seek help in the first place.

"I just notice odd little things about people and what is going on around me," Brand said. "I don't know how to explain it."

Plante continues to recover in a hospital.
