DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- A 31-year-old woman in Daytona Beach was taken into custody early Sunday on suspicion she pulled 11 different fire alarms inside a popular hotel, causing the evacuation of sleeping guests.Police said people inside the Ocean Walk Resort in Daytona Beach staying on the floors 19 through 25 were evacuated when fire alarms went off at about midnight."The fire alarms went off at midnight last night and went off at 3 a.m. the night before," hotel guest Paige Demaree said. "It was a rude awakening."When officers arrived, they took Deborah Hammons of Winter Springs into custody.Authorities said they believe Hammons pulled the fire alarms and hosed down hallways and doors with a fire extinguisher."You've got multiple fire-engine companies responding with lights and sirens in an emergency setting," Daytona Beach Fire and Rescue Lt. Lawrence Morgan said. "It's putting ourselves, pedestrians and other traffic at risk."Police said Hammons appeared to be intoxicated, Local 6's Charnel Wright reported.If Hammons is convicted of tampering with a fire extinguisher or fire alarm, she faces up to five years in prison, Local 6 reported.Watch Local 6 News for more on this story.
