Suit: Fosamax Causes Jawbones To Fall Apart

A drug that is supposed to stop brittle bones is making jawbones fall apart, and some Floridians said it has happened to them, according to a Local 6 News report.A class-action lawsuit filed in Fort Myers this week charges that Fosamax does the reverse of what is supposed to do and destroys jawbones, the report said.Patients claim Merck misrepresented the safety of its osteoporosis drug by withholding warnings that it could kill jawbone tissue.
The drug manufacturer acknowledged reports of patients developing the rare condition while taking Fosamax but said that it doesn't necessarily mean the drug caused it.Watch Local 6 News for more on this story.
