Chemical In Plastic Can Leach Into Liquids, Report Says

Parents are being warned about plastic baby bottles after studies showed they could possibly cause developmental and reproductive problems, Local 6 News reported.

At issue is a chemical found in may plastic products called bisphenol A or BPA. Laboratory tests at the University of Missouri found that BPA can leach into liquids at potentially dangerous levels from baby bottles sold by five leading brands.

The brands in question are Avent, Dr. Brown's, Evenflo, Gerber and Playtex, according to the report.

The study has prompted the National Institutes of Health to re-examine the dangers of BPA, but the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association said "there is no danger to consumers when products are used as intended."
