Contest Opens For Cheetah Cub Names

WASHINGTON -- Two of the new cheetah cubs at the National Zoo need names, and zookeepers are turning to the public to make the choice, television station WRC reported.The four cubs -- two males and two females -- were born on Nov. 23. They went on public display on Feb. 5.

Names for two of the cubs -- one male and one female -- will be chosen through an online poll. Names for the other two cubs have not yet been announced.Zookeepers have already narrowed the list of names to three each. The possible names for the male cub are:

- Uheri (Swahili for "good fortune")
- Fahari ("pride")
- Askari ("guard" or "watchman")
- Imara (Swahili for "strong" or "strength")

- Karas (a region of Namibia)
