CHERRY HILL, N.J. -- She charmed the crowd as spokeswoman for Wedgwood China in Cherry Hill, N.J., Thursday, but Sarah Ferguson was not at all happy with the tapes of Princess Diana that have been released.
Ferguson and Diana were friends since they were 14 years old."I think if she were alive today, I think she would be so horrified that people are looking into her at this level because she's not here to answer, and I'm not answering for her with you," Ferguson told Philadelphia's WCAU-TV in an interview.
Ferguson said the tapes are being used to get viewers and readers."I think the whole thing is an example of where our society is going, because it's the society who wants to know and all you're doing is putting it out there," she said. "It's the people who are turning on the television or reading the newspaper because they want to know. You know what? We all don't want to know."Ferguson said it's time people leave Diana alone.
"It's time to let her be at peace," Ferguson said. "I want to have my memories. I don't want to keep having to look back and hear something, which I know is something to be true or not. I know her and I love her."Ferguson said she feels sorry that Diana's children must be exposed to the tapes. On a personal note, Ferguson said she has been on a tough journey to find herself. She said that it was difficult carrying out the expectations and demands of being a member of the royal family."I could never balance the two very well because you can't. You must always keep up the certain way and I didn't want to do that. I wanted to be real.Ferguson said that it was the United States that gave her back her life.
