1 dead after 4-motorcycle crash during Bike Week in Volusia County

Crash happened around 11:18 p.m. along North U.S. Highway 1

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A motorcycle crash in Ormond Beach ended with one man’s death on Thursday night, according to the police department.

In a release, police said they responded to the crash around 11:18 p.m. at North U.S. Highway 1 and Nova Road, discovering several damaged motorcycles and injured victims.

Three people were taken to the hospital, and one of them — Gary Howard, 45, of Ormond Beach — later died from his injuries, the release shows.

According to investigators, a speeding motorcycle driving south on North U.S. Highway 1 had crashed into a group of motorcycles stopped at a red light, ending with four motorcycles being damaged.

“As Bike Week continues, this incident emphasizes the critical importance of road safety,” the release reads. “We urge all motorists to exercise caution and adhere strictly to traffic laws. By staying vigilant and following regulations, we can prevent further tragedies.”

Police did not provide the name of the motorcyclist who caused the crash or said whether they might face any charges.
