MARION COUNTY, Fla. – An Ocala woman arrested in Silver Springs Shores is accused of driving a pickup truck into two pedestrians late Saturday — killing one and leaving the other with serious injuries — before leaving the scene of the crash, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

It happened around 10:56 p.m. on Spring Road in a dark area with no street lighting near Spring Place, troopers said.

According to an FHP crash report, a 49-year-old Ocala man riding a bicycle was towing an 84-year-old Ocala man on a motorized scooter, traveling east as the woman drove the truck west. The right front of the pickup truck then struck the two men, the report states.

The woman, identified as 40-year-old Mary Wise, then drove away in a westerly direction, troopers said. The 49-year-old man suffered serious injuries in the crash while the 84-year-old man’s injuries were fatal, according to FHP.

Marion County deputies soon located Wise in the same neighborhood, the report states. Troopers told her she had been identified due to vehicle parts left at the scene matching damage to the pickup truck, adding surveillance video of the crash also helped in this regard.

Wise faces charges of failing to remain at the scene of a crash involving death, failing to remain at the scene of a crash involving serious bodily injuries and leaving the scene of a crash involving damage to property, booking records show.

She is being held on no bond at the time of this report.
