Man dies after driving pickup truck into retention pond near Orlando, troopers say

Crash occurred on 19th Street near Westmoreland Drive

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A 34-year-old Kissimmee man died early Sunday after driving a pickup truck into a retention pond near Orlando, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 4:33 a.m. on 19th Street, west of Westmoreland Drive, as the man failed to negotiate a cul-de-sac, troopers said.

The pickup truck struck a curb and continued west off of the roadway and into the water, becoming fully submerged, according to a crash report.

Troopers said the man was located in the retention pond — outside of the vehicle — and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A roadblock was established on 19th Street as the crash was investigated.
