Smoke may linger near Williamson Boulevard in Volusia County due to brush fire

Traffic reopens from Beville Road to Madeline Avenue

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A brush fire that prompted the closure of a roadway in Volusia County was 90% contained as of early Friday afternoon, officials said.

The fire broke out Thursday, forcing authorities to close Williamson Boulevard from Beville Road and Madeline Avenue. The roadway was reopened Thursday night.

Port Orange police said the brush fire burned about 40 acres.

There were no reports of damage or crashes in the area due to the blaze.

Firefighters on Friday warned of smoke in the area over the next few days.
